
Collections Management 101

Collections Management 101 is designed for staff and volunteers at small and mid-size organizations. The course content was initially created by conservator Gwen Spicer, collections specialists Joann Lindstrom, Patti Ford and Linda Norris.
This offering will be facilitated by Sarah LeCount, Collection Coordinator for the Rochester Museum and Science Center and will feature weekly live chat sessions. Course materials are designed to help you focus on your own organization, with assignments relating to real-life issues and problems.
Topics to be covered over a six week period include:
- Mission & Collecting Plans
- Collections Management Policies
- Insurance, Ethics & Museum Law?
- Accessioning & Cataloging
- Security & Disaster Planning?
- Housekeeping, IPM & Artifact Handling

Program Requirements/Pre-requisites
The only course requirements are a familiarity with basic computer programs, including email, the internet, and downloading pdf files and a high speed internet connection.
